REGISTER TO VOTE

All voters in the May 4, 2010 special bond issue election must be registered.  The final day to register to vote is Monday, April 5, 2010, by 4:00 p.m.  City of Ishpeming residents of the Ishpeming Public School District can register to vote at City Hall with City Clerk Jenifer Rajala (485-1091).  Ishpeming Township residents of the Ishpeming Public School District can register to vote at the Ishpeming Township Hall with Township Clerk Susan Jandron (485-5411).

Healthier School Environment Program

Children should have access to healthy food and be able to make healthy food choices wherever they are. That is why Phelps Middle School has been chosen to participate in the Healthier School Environment program funded in part by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Michigan Dairy council. Throughout this academic school year we will be sponsoring various activities and programs to encourage students to make healthy choices in their daily diet and activities. Each month we will be providing different recipes to inspire healthy eating choices.

This month we are focusing on “Pizzas with Pizzazz!”  Suggestions for healthful pizza toppings:            

Meats and Meat Alternatives

• Chicken breast strips
• Scrambled eggs and lean ham
• Shrimp
• Tofu
• Tunafish
• Turkey sausage

Vegetables:

• Asparagus

• Broccoli

• Cauliflower

• Green onions

• Mushrooms

• Olives

• Spinach

• Potatoes

Fruits:

• Apples

• Blueberries

• Cherries

• Peaches
